Paul Gage Tires

Understanding Paul Gage Tires is a simple and graphic reference chart that will help you choose the perfect Paul Gage tires.

Paul Gage has been making urethane tires for many years now. Paul lives in Winnipeg, Manitoba and his tires have become very popular for home racers as replacements for most of the original tires that come with the various cars available on the market, and they're also compatible with CB Design and Slot.it wheels. Urethane tires are perfect for most track surfaces and are pretty forgiving if there's some dust in the track environment.

Paul Gage Tires all have a rounded profile on the outside and have a very flat and shiny traction surface (the inside profile is rougher, from the moulding process). Urethane tires are easy to sand and profile the way you want them to be.

As there is a wide variety of wheel sizes out there, the following numbering scheme has been created to facilitate your choice:

Digits 1-2: outer diameter (in mm)
Digits 3-4: width (in mm)
Digit 5: width of the center rib (in mm)

Most center ribs have a thickness of 1.0 mm. Some cars from Monogram and Carrera (mostly) have 1.5 or 2.0mm-thick center ribs. XD and XXD after the model number indicate taller center grooves on the tires to accomodate those wheels.

You can also use our exclusive Paul Gage Tire Selector, which will help select the right tire for a given wheel/car. Please note that we're not able to test all possible combinations. If you want to help us populate this Tire Selector, just drop us a note and together, we'll get this tool to be even more useful.

PGT or XPG?
PGT is the standard urethane compound from Paul Gage. It grips the wheel tight and gives you great traction on most surfaces. If you want more performance, at the cost of a slightly higher wear rate and a softer tire that can move a bit on the tire in fast turns, go for the Extreme compound (XPG). Softer and stickier, it will give you the edge you need for a race win at your next start. If you glue XPG tires to the wheels, you will get the most performance from them.
